About

Fields of History is a place-led archive of RAF airfields, aircraft, and squadrons — designed to help you explore connections between sites, units, and machines across time.

Who’s behind it

I’m Shane Fullwood — a lorry driver with a deep interest in military aviation and the battlefields of the First and Second World Wars. I love building knowledge bases that make it easier to explore history through places, context, and connected stories.

What it is

  • An editorial archive of linked historical entries
  • A tool for discovery via listings and the Atlas map
  • A living project that grows with better sources and coverage

What it isn’t

  • An official record
  • A definitive single-source authority
  • A substitute for professional historical research

How to use it

Sources and uncertainty

Where possible, entries include sources and notes. Some records will remain incomplete — the site prefers being honest about gaps rather than filling them with certainty theatre.

Corrections and contributions

If you spot an error or want to contribute material, please get in touch. Include the page link and any supporting sources.
